About

Dr Giulia Neri

Clinical Psychologist & CBT Therapist

I'm a Clinical Psychologist and CBT Therapist offering therapy in English and Italian. My approach is thoughtful, evidence-based, and tailored to the wider context of your life - not only to symptoms in isolation. I aim to create a space where you feel understood without judgement, while helping you make sense of what is happening and move towards meaningful change.

I trained in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford and am registered with the HCPC and accredited by the BABCP. My background has included work across NHS and specialist settings, which continues to shape the way I think about complexity, health, identity, and emotional wellbeing.

My experience has developed across a range of NHS and specialist settings, where I have worked with adults and young people in areas including adult mental health, neurorehabilitation, intellectual disabilities, adolescent inpatient services, staff support, and specialist services connected to physical health and visible difference. This continues to shape the way I think and work, especially when difficulties are complex, influenced by multiple factors, or do not fit neatly into a single category.

How I work

I work collaboratively and at a pace that feels manageable, balancing space for reflection with practical ways of moving forward. Therapy is shaped around your needs, goals, and circumstances, rather than following a fixed formula.

My approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and informed by different therapeutic models, including CBT, third-wave approaches, DBT, and systemic and narrative ways of thinking. The focus, however, is not on applying a model rigidly, but on finding what feels most helpful and relevant for you. Where relevant, I also pay attention to the links between emotional wellbeing, physical health, identity, and the wider context of your life.

Clinical interests

My work has included supporting people with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, and I have particular experience in areas where distress is shaped by health, identity, stress, or more complex life circumstances.

This includes work related to:, anxiety, low mood, and patterns that feel difficult to shift, burnout, work-related stress, and the impact of prolonged responsibility, the emotional impact of illness, diagnosis, treatment, or persistent symptoms, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and other difficulties at the mind–body interface, body image, visible difference, identity, self-worth, and life transitions.

I also have experience supporting — and welcome — healthcare staff and others in high-pressure or caring professions, where sustained responsibility, emotional strain, and the demands of looking after others can gradually begin to affect wellbeing, self-confidence, relationships, and day-to-day functioning.

I also offer a reduced fee for NHS staff. You can find more information on the Services & Fees page.

What you can expect

In the first appointments, we will take time to understand what brings you, what you would like to be different, and what might be most helpful. This usually includes beginning to make sense of some of the patterns, pressures, or circumstances that may be shaping the difficulty, so that we have a clearer idea of where to start.

If you continue with therapy, my aim is to offer sessions that feel thoughtful, steady, and purposeful. We will work collaboratively, at a pace that feels manageable, with space both to reflect and to think about change in practical ways. This may involve understanding recurring patterns, noticing what keeps difficulties going, and finding new ways of responding that feel realistic and meaningful.

Therapy tends to be most helpful when sessions are regular and when you are able to join from a private, confidential space where you feel able to speak openly. As I work online, it is important that sessions feel as protected and uninterrupted as possible.

The work is shaped around your needs, goals, and circumstances rather than following a fixed formula, and we will review things as we go so that therapy remains helpful and relevant to you.

If you are not sure whether therapy is right for you, you are welcome to start with a free 15-minute introductory call, with no commitment required.

For aspiring psychologists: I am sometimes able to offer limited free mentoring to future psychologists. My availability for this is limited, but you are welcome to get in touch if this feels relevant.
